Plans for Exmouth’s new world class watersports should be submitted by the end of the month, the developers have said.
A consultation period has begun on the project which is an integral part of East Devon District Council’s plans to regenerate the town’s seafront area.
Described as a community-focused and not-for-profit development, the centre is the second phase of the major seafront project.
Three public exhibition events have been held for the public to have their chance to see the plans for themselves and feedback can still be left on the proposals for the next week.

Developers Grenadier Estates say that they have been delighted with the attendance at the consultation events, will be reviewing all the feedback, and hopefully submitting a formal planning application by the end of November.

Peter Quincey, Director of Grenadier, said: “We were really pleased with the attendance across the three consultation events, with many of the Exmouth community coming along to meet with our team, view the proposals and offer feedback. We also had an excellent response to our dedicated consultation website which was also really encouraging.

“Whilst we are still collating and digesting comments from the large number of feedback forms submitted at the events and online, there is still time to leave feedback via the online feedback form which is available until midnight on Friday 10 November (see http://watersportscentreexmouth.co.uk).
“In terms of next steps, we will continue to fully review all of the feedback offered by the community and will be updating our website in the coming weeks to inform the community about any changes we may be making to the scheme ahead of our final planning application which we plan to submit at the end of November.”

More details on the development proposals were revealed at the consultation events and they show that the new timber-clad centre will be built on the car park on Queen’s Drive fronted with decking. The west area will feature an events space and the centre will also host a cluster of compact retail units.

Grenadier say that improved access to the beach is provided through two new sets of steps and an access ramp.
On the plans, Mr Quincey added: “Exmouth has got world class facilities for its watersports as far as its actual environment, it’s got incredibly flat water and wind accessible from a variety of directions.
“The watersports centre is all about providing the facilities to enable Exmouth to use its natural assets better and to encourage the uptake of watersports activities within the town in general.
“We’re passionate about watersports itself and we are confident that this is something that will have a real benefit to the whole community.”

Grenadier hope to submit a planning application by the end of November once the consultation period has finished. The developers say they are not able to put a cost on the project at this stage.
Grenadier have also launched a bespoke consultation website – www.watersportscentreexmouth.co.uk – to coincide with its first public consultation event and this also offers the chance for the community to comment on the proposals via an online feedback form.
