Teignbridge District Council has introduced a temporary change to the opening hours of its main reception at Forde House as significant building work gets underway.Forde House is undergoing a redesign to enable the Department for Work and Pensions to relocate its JobCentre Plus services into the complex from their current town centre offices. The revision to Forde House’s reception opening hours will help ensure the continued safety of the public and minimise disruption while remodelling work continues.Work includes knocking down walls, space clearance, setting up temporary front desk space and refurbishing all public areas. It will be done in a phased way but given what’s involved, it will be unavoidably noisy and work will have to take place during office hours.
From October 1, the opening times will be from 9am to 4pm whilst the work in reception is on-going. The temporary change will last until December 31. Information posters have been advertised in the run up to the change, and people have been advised when they visit the main offices, phone in or visit the website.People will still be able to phone into the offices to speak to an adviser between 8.30am- 5pm Monday – Thursday and Friday 8.30am – 4.30pm.
Cllr John Goodey, Teignbridge District Council’s Executive member for Community Neighbourhoods, said: “We are now entering a critical phase of the work to remodel the reception area to accommodate the DWP and improve public areas to all customers in the future. The safety of customers and staff, and the ability for contractors to carry out work in a safe environment, is paramount, which is why we have introduced these revised hours.“Our website with its range of online services and automated phone payment line gives customers the opportunity to transact, report, pay and apply 24 hours a day.“Arrangements are in place to ensure any pre-planned appointments and meetings outside of these hours can continue as usual.“The co-location of another public sector partner to Forde House is a win-win for us all as it will bring key services together under one roof, improve access for claimants and provide best value for the taxpayer.”
This does not apply to any other Teignbridge sites or leisure centres which continue to operate in their usual way.
The move takes into consideration figures which show that, on average, footfall is lowest between 8-9am and 4-5pm.
