A £12.5million company that specialises in background checks is setting its sights on becoming the UK’s number one.
uCheck is currently England’s second largest employee background checking company, performing over 300,000 checks a year for clients in a variety of sectors including care and education.
Last year, it recorded total sales growth of 37 per cent with a turnover of £12.5million and now employs 26 staff at its new customised offices on the Marsh Barton trading estate in Exeter.
The move came after uCheck secured a funding package from Lloyds Bank to relocate from its original premises in Christow, where it had been based since 2002. The new offices are easier for staff to commute to and provide a modern, adaptable working environment.
George Griffiths, director of operations at uCheck, said: “A lot of our recent growth has been down to a new online system we developed, which lets customers pick and mix a package of checks to suit their needs.
The team at Lloyds Bank has supported our ambitions for expansion all the way.”
“Increasingly, we’re working with huge, national clients that employ thousands, and by 2020 I can see us employing up to 40 people to service demand. That means we can pitch for bigger, multi-national clients, offer new services – like tenant checks for landlords – and move towards our goal of becoming the number-one business in our sector.”
Andrew Sanders, relationship director at Lloyds Bank commercial banking, said: “uCheck has seen a significant increase in demand for its’ services over the last 3 years, which it has been able to meet thanks to its innovative approach to developing new products and services. This family company is now leading the way in its industry, with an excellent management team in place.
“We are committed to helping Britain prosper by supporting ambitious, fast-growing businesses like uCheck. That’s why, since the start of 2011, we have grown our net lending to SMEs by 31% whilst the market has contracted by 12%.”
